Next, we lay a perforated PVC pipe at the bottom of the trench and backfill the entire cavity with washed river gravel.

As water saturates your lawn, it naturally takes the path of least resistance. It flows through the gravel, drops into the holes of the perforated pipe, and is safely routed completely away from your home's foundation to a safe discharge point, such as a dry well or a municipal storm ditch.
